Lewisburg beckons those seeking a remarkable preservation of the past, while maintaining a vision of the future. Nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, this 221-year-old town has architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries that isn’t a common tourist attraction. In fact, the town has a 236-acre area designated as a National Register Historic District and was awarded a place in the “Dozen Distinctive Designations” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Historic landmarks in Lewisburg include Carnegie Hall, built in 1902, which serves as a performing arts center with shows and art exhibits available throughout the year. The General Lewis Inn, which carries the name of the town, was built in 1834 and today serves as an inn and collection of impressive antiques.

Today, Lewisburg is keeping the beat of West Virginia’s cultural heart. The historic downtown area has a variety of local specialty shops, restaurants and award-winning art galleries. Social events and festivals are regular occasions in Lewisburg. The town hosts the annual West Virginia State Fair and Taste of Our Town Festival, which features local merchants and businesses lining the historic downtown streets featuring their finest creations in food tastings. Lewisburg also boasts one of the finest educational institutions in the country, the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) For ten years, U.S. News & World Report magazine has ranked the WVSOM among the best.

Lewisburg’s population of nearly 4,000 has unparalleled access to an amazing variety of outdoor and recreational adventures. The Greenbrier River Trail stretches over 78 miles and provides access for fishing, kayaking and canoeing on the river and hiking, biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing. Ready for an unusual adventure? Take a self-guided tour through the Lost World Caverns, another of Lewisburg's National Natural Landmarks. Additional recreational opportunities include golf, caving, whitewater rafting, historic tours and unique shopping options.

Four distinctive seasons give Lewisburg residents a variety of stunning environments throughout the year. Bright green summers are followed by the autumn color splendor; delicate snow fall of winter and the flowering array of colors in spring are welcomed with enthusiasm.

Living in Lewisburg is a welcome change from the ordinary to the extraordinary.
